Monuments to the Second Economy

The concept of this exhibition is the development of post-democratic South Africa's economy two different, imbalanced economies: one of the elite rich, and the other of the poor masses.

The exhibition consists of two projects: Gathering Footprints, Collecting Memories and Re-imagining Landscapes.
Gathering Footprints, Collecting Memories is a multidisciplinary project on stories of gender politics. Commentary is made on multiple societal issues including the social and cultural emancipation of women.

Re-imagining Landscapes merges performance/happening with sculpture/installation. Viewers are invited to help erect the installation and tell stories based on recent oral histories of South Africa. This activity of the viewer serves as a reference to nation-building and pays homage to the everyman South African labourer, the constant builders of the country and its economy.
