Biography

 

Phoka Nyokong is an artist, curator, writer and researcher. His work is a transdisciplinary focus on performance, sound/video and installation, painting, drawing, photography, storytelling, curating and writing.

 

His exhibitions over the recent past demonstrate a consistent focus on work with mostly public institutions and some private institutions. These include the Aardklop Arts Festival, the Turbine Art Fair, the Pretoria Art Museum, Lizamore and Associates, the 2019 Absa L’Atelier Exhibition at the Absa Gallery, Johannesburg; the Ernest Mancoba Dialouge at A4 Arts Foundation, Cape Town and his recently opened first institutional solo exhibition titled Dinoolwane, Matlotlo le Baloi, at the North West University Art Gallery, Potchefstroom.

 

He is the recipient of the Gerard Sekoto Awad for 2019.
